SVU season 15 recap before season 16 premieres Wednesday

Well, folks, we’re down to just a few days before the premiere of Law and Order: SVU’s 16th season! Before we dive in, let’s refresh our memories with a review of the Season 15 finale.

In the penultimate episode of the 15th season, we meet Simon Wilkes, a crazy photographer who takes moderately inappropriate pictures of children and—here’s the creepy part—has a huge torture chamber that turns out to be unused. Nonetheless, this man has an entire room decked out with tubes, scissors, knives, drills and all-things-terrifying where he goes to imagine different forms of child abuse. Despite evidence of foul play beyond his ugly thoughts, Wilkes gets off scot-free.

Soon after, Detective Amaro channels his “inner-unstable-Stabler” and sets off at the end of the second-to-the-last episode of Season 15 to show Wilkes how he feels.

The finale opens with Amaro throwing a few good punches at Wilkes’s face, which lands Amaro in prison. Unexpectedly, Detective John Munch returns to bail him out of jail and the crowd goes wild! 🙂

Meanwhile, Detective Benson continues to pursue a previous case involving a child she found and rescued. “Baby Boy Doe,” as the judge refers to him, will have to enter foster care if a relative or guardian does not soon claim him.

Simultaneously, the detectives investigate a string of male tourist rapes and eventually detain ‘Lil Tino and Ellie Porter as suspects. Porter is reluctant to give up ‘Lil Tino as the criminal until it turns out that Baby Boy Doe, actually named Noah, is her son. Thereafter, Benson uses Noah as leverage to pull Porter out of her bad situation and convince her to testify against ‘Lil Tino. Just as Porter agrees and begins to go through drug rehab, ‘Lil Tino somehow draws her out into the streets and burns her to death.

Left without a living relative, in the final courtroom scene regarding Noah, the judge intuitively asks if Benson would be interested in caring for him over the course of the next year. At first confused and startled, Benson accepts, and as the camera pans away, viewers see her cuddling the little baby boy in a rocking chair.

I could get used to this sight 🙂

Dick Wolf (Warren Leight and Julie Martin are actually SVU’s mastermind script writers, but Wolf’s name appears in the classic show closer each week), must you always leave us with a cliffhanger? The end of Season 12 left viewers wondering what would become of Detective Stabler. Season 13’s finale made us cringe over the possibility of Cragen as a murderer. Season 14…don’t even get me started. Would Benson escape Lewis’s clutches? And now Benson’s motherhood and Amaro’s shield hang in the balance. Fortunately, we are mere days away from the surely-exciting conclusion to Season 15’s finale.

You all know where I’ll be Sept. 24 at 9 p.m. ET (8 p.m. CT).

What is your favorite SVU finale episode? Least favorite? How do you feel about Benson taking on Noah?

  1. I used to be a hug SVU fan but I stopped watching it a couple years ago but reading this made me want to get back into watching it. Thank God for Netflix! If you like this show, you should try watching The Killing. I just started watching it with one of my suite mates and it is really good! There isn’t much I would change about it. The theme fits the topic and it is well written!
